Graduate Fellowships
Attracting the most outstanding young scholars to complete their graduate studies at Northwestern requires a significant investment. To remain competitive with peer institutions, the University offers incoming graduate students multi-year support that averages about $40,000 per student per year. Graduate fellowships are highly competitive and are awarded on the basis of merit.
The Graduate School at Northwestern has set a bold new standard for graduate-level financial aid. Against a long-standing industry tradition of nine-month funding without a multi-year guarantee, the University committed itself to awarding 12 full months of support for at least four consecutive years of PhD education.

Create a Named Endowment Fund
Endowed funds for graduate students may be used to support fellowships, research, dissertation completion, or adavanced students who are engaged in cross-school initatives. Post-doctoral fellowships start at $1 million. Graduate fellowships and professional school scholarships start at $100,000.
Contribute to a General Endowed Fund
The Graduate School has two such funds, the General Graduate Student Support Fund and the Presidential Graduate Fellows Program. Both of these funds provide needed support for graduate scholarship and research.
