Stay in the Circle: NULC Giving Overview

The dedicated volunteers who make up the Northwestern University Leadership Circle (NULC) work tirelessly to ensure that Northwestern remains among the best universities in the world. According to the figures from the first half of Fiscal Year 2011, their efforts are paying off in a big way.

Midway through FY 11, leadership giving at Northwestern surpassed $28 million—a 19 percent increase over the same point in FY 10. All six NULC Regional Councils experienced double-digit increases in funds raised, led by Boston’s 42 percent surge.

Additionally, donor participation increased by 8 percent, as 6,438 donors made leadership gifts. The San Francisco Regional Council achieved the biggest increase in donor participation, growing 23 percent to 332 donors. Boston and New York experienced 21 and 16 percent increases in participation, respectively.

These gains were made possible by exciting programming that has mobilized donors all across the country. Many of these events are organized by regional council volunteers and aim to engage small groups of donors with shared interests.

In the New York Regional Council alone, member Dennis Kaltman (Weinberg 87) hosted an informational session in November featuring Cherub Program Administrative Director Barbara Reeder, and co-chair Jonathan Rosen (Weinberg 81) hosted a January informational session on the college admissions process featuring Chris Watson, Dean of Undergraduate Admission. Meanwhile, the Washington, DC, Regional Council hosted alumni White House staffers at their spring business meeting in early March.

Additional upcoming events include an April 14 discussion of the University’s investment philosophy and endowment hosted by San Francisco co-chair Scott Ryles (Weinberg 81) and featuring Northwestern's Vice President and Chief Investment Officer, William H. McLean.

With so many chances to become involved, it truly is easier than ever to stay in the circle.
