Having a world-class faculty enables the University to attract the very best students, who are eager to learn from experts in fields ranging from history to medicine.
Our faculty members make an impact in the University’s classrooms and labs every day, and their work is frequently recognized by some of the most prominent organizations in their fields. Here are just a few of the exceptional honors bestowed on Northwestern faculty over the past year.
- Darlene Clark Hine, Board of Trustees Professor of African American Studies and professor of history in the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, received a National Humanities Medal for outstanding achievements in history from President Barack Obama at a White House ceremony.
- Kristian Hammond and Joseph Moskal, both professors in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, were inducted into the Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame
- Alisha Thomas ’01, ’05 MD, an instructor of clinical family and community medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine, was named the 2014 Illinois Family Medicine Teacher of the Year by the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians.
- Chad Mirkin, George B. Rathmann Professor of Chemistry and professor of medicine, of chemical and biological engineering, of biomedical engineering, and of materials science and engineering, was selected by the US Department of Defense as a fellow in the department’s National Security Science and Engineering Faculty Fellows program. Mirkin, who was also selected for the program in 2008, is the only person to win the prestigious award twice.
- Gregory Carpenter, James Farley/Booz Allen Hamilton Professor of Marketing Strategy at the Kellogg School of Management, won the Sheth Foundation/Journal of Marketing Award for the research that led to his book, Resurgence: The Four Stages of Market-Focused Reinvention.
