Matching Gifts

Gift Designations
Most company contributions follow the designation of the original gift, but many companies do have restrictions. For example, some only match unrestricted funds (the Northwestern Annual Fund and school annual funds meet this qualification), and some do not match gifts to athletics or fraternal organizations.

Leadership Recognition
Matching gifts may qualify you for giving society membership. To receive Northwestern University Leadership Circle credit for matching gifts, documentation of your claim must be received in the same fiscal year as the originating gift. Since companies pay out matching monies on different cycles, actual receipt of your company’s matching gift money is not required to receive credit. Northwestern University’s fiscal year runs from September 1 through August 31.

Note: Some companies do not allow their employees to receive any kind of benefit as a result of matching gifts. Employees of these companies will not be eligible for membership in the Leadership Circle based on matching gift contributions.
