Last month, thousands of new Northwestern graduates celebrated during the University’s annual commencement ceremony. Embracing Northwestern’s spirit of discovery, these future entrepreneurs, scholars, doctors, artists, and leaders are well prepared for purposeful lives and careers.
Graduation, and the passage from one period of life into another, reminds me that Northwestern is a place where tradition thrives alongside promise. In 2018, we’ve already witnessed many examples.
In March, the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra shared the musical legacy of Leonard Bernstein with audiences in China on its first international tour. In May, students took the stage for the annual Waa-Mu show—our 87-year theatrical tradition. In June, 20 laboratory mice traveled to the International Space Station as part of a unique study led by two Northwestern scientists, one of whom has partnered with NASA since 1987.
In countless ways, Northwestern’s history of excellence has helped pave the way for new learning opportunities, research advances, and partnerships. And, importantly, each accomplishment was made possible by a long tradition of philanthropic support—a tradition you foster through your membership in NU Loyal.
As we look forward to the traditions and innovations that come with a new school year, I hope you take pride in the NU Loyal community we share and the University we continue to propel to new heights.
With appreciation,
